1166 backpackers has just opened on 28th Oct. 2010 to make your stay in
Nagano as comfortable as possible. The tasteful old private house which
was built 60years ago was renovated without disturbing the good atmosphere
of Japanese old house.
I absolutely reccommend you to stay near Zenkoji. No McDonald's, No Starbucks, No KFC, you can find small cozy cafe, local bar, good restaurant.
We have one 4 bed female dormitory (bunk bed style), 6 bed mix dormitory
(tatami style), and one 2~3 bed private room (tatami style). *During busy
season, it might be changed.
We can accommodate maximum of 14 people each night
As for being a small backpackers, we offer a family welcoming atmosphere for
you.
【ideal location】
1166 backpackers is located in an idyllic location, one street off the main street Chuou-dori, Nagano. Yet close to main attractions, near both the city centre and numerous famous temples shrines and cozy cafe. It is only 5 minutes walk to the Seven-Eleven, and also 5 minutes to Zenkoji.
【A recommended special event】
Oasaji : Morning Prayer and Temple Visit -- This is a monk's routine event
held every morning. Admission 500 yen per guest.
Time varies by season and month (eg: From 5:30AM in summer / From 7AM in winter)
No photos allowed.
With that ticket you can have great experience OKAIDAN MEGURI too.
The icon of the Buddha in Zenkoji Temple is known as "Ikko-Sanzon-Amida-Nyorai" which has never been on public display and is kept in absolute secrecy even from the chief priest of the temple. This "Okaidan Meguri" tour walks visitors through the underground corridor running beneath the main hall in total darkness and touching the key set just beneath the sacred image is believed to promise you the Land of Happiness in the afterlife

You probably enjoy wandering streets where Japanese old KURA (ware houses)
stand side by side too. If you are charmed by snow monkeys, it is also
nice location to get there. DO NOT FORGET TO BUY A DISCOUNTED TICKET "
KAEDE NO YU COUPON"
From Nagano station to Yudanaka station, originally it costs 1130JPY one way by
train (not JR) but with this coupon, it will be only 1500JPY with return ticket
and free onsen. You can buy this ticket at Nagano station (it is not JR line.
please ask at the local station. and the station staff may not speak English so
please write down the name of the coupon just in case!!)
There is direct bus going to Kamikochi from Nagano station.
It takes 3 hours and costs 5000JPY with return ticket.
It is bit hard to book cheap highway buses and get local information in
English.

Since I run 1166 backpackers alone, I may not here from 11:00 to 15:30.
If you come in during that time, please let me know in advance.

food, drink or smoking in the guestrooms. We desire to provide a comfortable
stay for all our guests. We would also like to mention that there are neighbors
who have lived in the area for generations. Please consider their lifestyle and
respect the quiet environment of the area.

If your are arriving after 22:00, please inform me for the arrangement..
【CHECK OUT】
Chek-out time is between 8:00 - 10:00
If you are departing before 8:00, please inform me.
It is highly appreciated if you bring your sheets and pillow case to the
front desk when checking out..
